  2. Interesting. I've been watching how Social networking is forming advertising and really it could go in any direction.

  3. I've been watching it too but the only thing I think it has done with advertising is make it more intrusive.

I think Doc is saying that consumers need to be empowered so that they can decide for themselves the products and services they want to buy. An example would be the consumer who has never seen a car commercial but researches all the 2008 models online/in magazines/etc. and buys the car that is best for him/her.

Social networking might make it possible for people to share information with each other more easily and in that way help each other make informed decisions about their purchases but that is just a side effect of the system. The social networks that are getting all the buzz right now online, from a business perspective, are a means for businesses to get their advertising in the faces of consumers. That's the goal they server and that's where the money is at.

  6. I think this article misses one major fact. The majority of consumers are dumber then rocks. Now depending on what you are trying to sell, these concepts could be helpful. If your cliental are all the smarter side of humanity, then great. Otherwise I think you better stick with trying to get as close to specific target advertising as you can get.

  7. The new social aspect of the Internet will definitely have a impact on all forms of marketing as people love to praise or bash a good or bad thing. Sellers will have little control of products and services online as there are sites that attract millions of visitors who are seeking info about everything.

MarkCarras is right to an extent. However, the average Internet searcher today is more familiar with Internet technology than radio technology and radio has been around all of our lives. The fact is, it does not take a genius to search for a local pizza joint and find Yelp.com where their local neighbors have reviewed the local eats. Bad service or bad food will get you a bad review online and probably influence the decisions of those who see the reviews.

The same can be done with almost any product or service available anywhere. The days of spinning the consumer are over for the most part. As the Internet grows, the "uneducated" pool grows smaller and smaller every day.
