techcrunch.com — Google’s on and off negotiations with Digg have been back on in a big way for the last six weeks, we’ve heard from multiple sources inside of Google, and the two companies are close to a deal that will bring Digg under the Google News property.

  2. This will be very interesting to see what happens. It certainly means that social media is a force and it is the way of the future. It also suggests to me that humans have a role not only in recomending content directly but within search as well. We'll see- but frankly this is the result of all people participating in social media and in general thos people should be congratulated.

  6. Sorry SilentJay but Digg has the traffic and the branding. Plus they have to do something now in case Microsoft walks away with Delicious as part of the Yahoo deal. Remember that Google wants to serve advertising on social sites and that takes massive traffic.

    Plus Digg owns a huge data center network, then Digg also owns their algo patents. We all knew this was coming especially with the testing Google has been doing with it's own voting features in the last week.

    We know Digg has the traffic and the branding, but they also have a ton more problems then people realize. Google is smart, but the Digg product is not as great as everyone thinks it is.
