slate.com — Will vegetable-based, biodegradable bags replace plastic and paper at the supermarket? Standard polyethylene bags cost retailers around 2 cents each, while paper bags might be a penny or two more expensive. But bioplastic bags, cost 7 to 8 cents.

  1. Maybe grocery stores should give people who bring their own bags a discount to get more people to do it. Right now they offer re-usable bags, but they charge for it and since most people are motivated by money (as proven by the success of Wal-Mart) few people buy them or use them.
