  1. I've been reading that folks are leaving both MySpace and Facebook at a higher than normal rate.

  7. It's getting harder and harder to find the time to use the social networking sites. I can only handle possibly 4 at any one time.

  8. I'm starting to get fed up with Facebook in particular. I hate the wall posts that say "Now forward this on to at least 10 other people or you'll die next week", and the increasingly pointless new applications. It's just fast reaching the stage where it's not fun any more.
I think if someone produces a simple, no nonsense social network without applications, but with photosharing, some kind of blogging capability, and perhaps integrated IM, that will do well at the expense of MySpace and Facebook. Anything more than that is just pointless IMHO.

Well, mixx has taken investments from companies like the LA Times and such. Digg and some others are just ad driven, and some social networks have a premium subscription model, like LinkedIn.

  11. @polymath22 Yes, I'd heard of Ning and I may try setting up my own network on it at some point.
