Google Flu Trends doesn't consider the many ways that people seek help with flu symptoms, such as calling Mom, and the many false positives that occur, for instance, from people who read the news about Google Flu Trends and want to learn more.

Apple announced Apple University, and hired Joel Podolny, the dean of the Yale School of Management, as dean. The lack of information about plans led to speculation, especially with an ivy league dean, about what the plans are for the university.

Bill Ayers' keynote was canceled under political pressure. If he had been presenting online, a UNL spokesperson believes the students wouldn't have benefited in the same way, but rescinding an invitation is a pretty drastic step.

Qwitter can be viewed as a failure due to the small number of people who use it and who successfully stop smoking, or as a innovative and low-cost approach to smoking cessation that works for some small number.

I knew someone whose hobby was reading the dictionary. “Weird,” you might reasonably say. I saw his name years later as an award-winning crossword puzzle maker - but it’s a hobby that would raise eyebrows on most resumes.
