An IT pro with several years of experience behind me I have played around with building websites since 1999. Learning in process I have tried and used many popular CMS and blog platforms with Typo3 becoming my personal choice for a CMS when I need to build a professional sites and WordPress as a platform of choice for blogs.
But as I became more knowledgeable with the raw power and customizability of WordPress I have found that it can be so much more then simple blog, as used by many people. WordPress can be easily turned into a fully equipped Web 2.0 portal unmatched by any others.
