You should have seen the glares I got when people outside were trying to hand me Democrat flyers to vote for their guy (or gal). I told them I was a republican, they told me that "your guy" McCain already had the nomination, so why was I even there? I told them McCain is the presumptive nominee, and there is still another candidate running in the Republican party, and a LOT can happen between now and November. I also corrected them that McCain was certainly not "my guy". Why anyone thinks the government knows how to raise your kids better than you do is beyond me. Yet, we have NCLB. Instead of 50 states having their own curriculum's tailored to the specific communities the schools educate in with which we have 50 chances to get it right, we get the government laying down standards which gives us only 1 chance to get it right. Obviously the government got it wrong. While leaving the responsibility of determining education up to states/communities/parents may mean some states would get it wrong or fall behind, they can at least learn from and model themselves after those states that got it right, all without risking the educational well being of every child in the nation when the government run fallacy fails.
