  1. Sorry I am a down vote on this. Old news and if you actually look at it while plenty pay more, plenty pay less. This is typical anti american BS IMHO.

I'm not quite sure how you see this to be anti American, it simply states that "The US pays pittance for Gas". Perhaps your interpretation is a reflection of your disposition.

  3. We're paying any where from $3.90 to $4.00 per gallon in NYC. The image didn't say what the unit of measurement was but I'm assuming gallon to gallon.

  4. @savoy6,

No I just don't consider 4 dollar plus gas a pittance. I find such a claim to be total BS, pittance? I don't give a crap what people in Europe pay for gas and comparing it to what working Americans pay is meaningless. We have truckers staring at 5 dollar diesel and the independents and smaller companies are going under.

To say this is a pittance is totally ignorant and disrespectful to the small business people and others getting boned daily.

Good point! I don't remember the last time I paid 2 bucks and change for gas or diesel. I am so tired of this old mantra of how we pay less then Europe or Japan, etc. You bet we do! And that is just one of the reasons I DON'T LIVE IN THOSE OTHER PLACES. If you don't have a socialist government many taxes are not needed. This nation needs a guy like Ron Paul, to bad the majority is not wiling to be responsible for themselves yet.

  6. Even though fuel costs more in Europe it is not so bad as the cars over here are more fuel efficient and people live closer together so distances travelled are less than in US. So on balance we probably spend similar amounts on our cars.

That's a coincidence because I find saying "I don't give a crap what people in Europe pay for gas..." to be ignorant and disrespectful. You have to stop thinking in terms of 'them' and 'us', its a global economy dude get used to it.

I think your attitude typifies why people often do hate on America.

    PS I don't hate America.

What I mean by that is what you pay does NOT influence how I judge what we pay. Our government is ripping us off and letting the oil companies do it too. Your government is ripping you off worse (the difference you pay is mostly tax). It is not that I don't care about you personally, it is that you getting screwed worse the us does not make us less screwed in the grand scheme of things.

My big concern is that my government is becoming more "European" (socialist) every day. We won't drill for it, we won't build new refineries, etc but we sure will tax the hell out of it.

Very valid points. In terms of Republican politics (and forgive my lack of knowledge on this) I would hate to see America slip back into a more isolationist stance as she was before WW2, surely we all working together is the only way forward?

The love affair with oil has to end, I mean its going to eventually anyway but if we continue consumption at the rate we currently do future generations will be screwed. This is where the US can make a massive difference, but her refusal to sign up to Kyoto makes other developing nations such as China and India think if America doesn't do it why should they.

  10. @Savoy6 ,

First glad we are moving to an understanding, I am sure I came off gruff, sorry about that.

Second, I am a Republican sort of I guess. Honestly I am a Libertarian (socially liberal, fiscal conservative). I really don't care what anyone does as long as it does not hurt anyone else.

Third, "All in it together". Yes and no. Economically we have no choice the world is converging into a singular economy and in many ways that is great. We can't totally fold up tents or anything but I do think my nation (government) has our fingers into way to damn many pies. I am also 100% against "in it together" if that means any form of global government.

Overall though I don't think we are that far apart on how we actually see things,

    Jack
