upi.com — The US Govt. (Dept. of Energy) says we have the off-peak electricity to power enough hybrids to take 70% of gas-powered cars off the road.

    Great submitt

    The thing aobut electricity is that it depends on where you live regarding emmisions. For example, I live in Washington DC and our electricity comes largely from some pretty filthy coal plants. Other ares of the country, however have cleaner sources of electricity (hydo, natural gas, wind, solar etc).

    Regardless however, if we can conectrate the problems to major sources (like a power plant) it is much easier to attack the problem of both efficiency and emmissions. My $0.02 anyway.

  2. @cmcgill - Thanks Chris. The article does mention the coal-related emissions, and no doubt there are differences depending on where you are in the US. I just think it's interesting to see a govt. agency almost clear the deck and say "... you know, we can do this. The grid can support a lot more electric cars."
