  1. Be gentle with me, this is my first serious attempt at writing informative humor. ;-)

  2. Too bad the lunchbox approach no longer works. I'm either an ignorer or kill 'em with kindness type, I find direct communication with them only tends to feed whatever it is that is wrong with them and therefore avoid it.

  3. @AbsolutelyTrue - I agree, although sometimes a direct approach (privately, no flaming in public) can have a desired effect. Funny thing I think my mother still has that lunch box packed up somewhere. The corners are all dented and paint is badly chipped (from whacking bullies with it). Thanks for taking a moment and reading it!

  4. repay evil for kindness. it's a biblical principle. and if that doesn't work, repay evil for kindness...

  6. @allen_mvp Very good write up on how to deal with these types of people. It's unfortunate the online world is full of people with such a need to cause issues. I have used the "ignore them" process on several forums I have been on. I agree though that being nice to them drives them insane. You can even see them self destruct from it sometimes and that is fun to watch.

  7. @Prepressology As a reminder anyone that must resort to using the lunch box, I will let you borrow it.

  8. @allen_mvp The lunch box is going to replace what used to be a big stick on some of the forums I belong too. It just looks so innocent until "BAM!"

  9. @Prepressology I prefer a clue stick, but you can't always be choosy <vbg>. Ignoring and kindness are the best two though for dealing with trolls.

  10. @allen_mvp Yes that is very true. Kind of takes the fun away sometimes but most of the time it is humorous to watch them self destruct. Especially if they are ignored. They start to feel like the picked on kid at the playground because no one will play with them.

  11. @Prepressology Yup. I find it sad that people get off on misbehaving. I guess it is the presumption that they are anonymous (when they actually aren't) that encourages them to act as such.

  12. @allen_mvp Maybe someday we'll see that shocker button. Until it will live in my happy dreams.

  13. @Prepressology well i still have my "easy button", it just doesn't seem to work well on my wife (that was easy).

  14. @allen_mvp Oh my that was bad, real bad! ha!

  15. @Prepressology Bet it made you smile or laugh though!

  16. @allen_mvp Made me jealous. My easy button doesn't work for that at all. Maybe I need to take mine back.

  17. @Prepressology LOL. I hotwired mine.

  18. @allen_mvp Love how this went from a conversation about trolls to a conversation about an "easy button."

  19. @Prepressology I actually have one of those Easy Buttons, you can buy them online from staples.com, they're like 5 bucks each and some of the money goes to charity. They speak "That's easy" then pressed. My clients get a kick out of it, often times when we come to an agreement on something I will press the easy button. Gets a good laugh.

Buy the Staples Easy Button (less than 5.00)

  20. @allen_mvp Yeah my boss actually has one in his office. I might just have to go get one. They are definitely a great thing for a laugh and one hell of a branding tool. Who ever came up with the idea is brilliant.

  21. @Prepressology Yes it is a brilliant thing. Someone was on top of their game when they came up with it.

  25. This article sucks, and so do you!

Just kidding, Allen. Thought a trollish comment was appropriate. Well written article. One day, I hope to browse a troll-free internet. But I fear that hope will never be realized.

  26. @Honest_Ape ;-) no problemo man, actually it's quite funny. Is a troll free internet similar to a toll free internet? ;-)

  27. @allen_mvp Very good article and well written, Ive been waiting for you to post somthing a little less technical that I could understand and vote up. Not that your other stuff isint good its just not in my reality tunnel. Besides Ive been wanting a good definition for troll since I hear that word bandied about often.

  28. @mortalwind ;-) Thanks man. I am trying to loosen up a bit and write lighter and more humorous items. I have one I am wqorking on that should be funny it is a story of going from XP to Vista and back to XP. I should have it ready for publishing on Friday. I am going to whack Microsoft around a bit (always good for a few smiles). I have a couple of funny links about trolls if you want me to mixx mail them to you. LMK
