Mixx as per usual is up to some great Changes...for those that don't regularly read the Mixx Blog, you might want to check this out

  1. Booyah, Mixx is doin' it again! They are listening to their users and implementing their requests! w00t!

  2. Great stuff. I wonder what else we can get them to give us.....

But we're not thinking big enough people. They are delivering too consistently. We should be pushing the envelope and asking for stuff like 'sound cannons' that we can press to 'buzz' people in real time through their own speakers on their computers. Spam me? - Bzzzzzt! Blogspam? - Bzzzzzt! Bogus allegation after bogus allegation? - Bzzzzzzzzzzt!!! Blind vote? Bzzzzt! Bzzzzt!! Bzzzzztttt!!!

Can they do that? They have the technology to do that, right? If they put a man on the moon last century, why don't I already have an internet sound cannon?

McGill....get your people onto it. Even if it means you having to pull some contractors off my 'doom sphere'. Team Albion wants it....you're not just going to send us into the spam homelands with only an unlimited report button are you? I mean, don't get me wrong, that's great. We'll be pinging reports now like mossies on a windshield. But sound cannons dude. The war effort needs 'em!

  3. @Albionshores get me one too...also get me the doom sphere...sounds intriguing

@Nomadelle that is one of the reasons I love Mixx so much is that they really do care about the users and the community,

That's the 'can do' attitude I'm looking for. You'll go far.

    I have other ideas too.....

We need to start thinking out of the box and even in terms of new dimensions. It's all good and well having Kori floating around the ether nuking bad guy threads but it's not thinking smart. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't spammers have similar regenerative capabilities as worms and don't they share the reproductive traits of bacteria. They know when a thread has been nuked and they just come back with a dozen different usernames. Even Kori can't maintain that offensive indefinitely.

    So here's what I suggest.....

Instead of nuking them, and this is criminal mastermind genius even if I do say so myself, and it is and I do; we mass remotely switch it so they are automatically mass ignored by every Mixx user without other Mixx users knowing about it....so the Spam threads and their Spam comments still exists, but they are the only one's that know about its existence. They and other users who have been deemed nasty. In their own internet reality, in this Mixx underworld, their threads exist so they see no need to re-register with more multiple usernames.....but then we take it to the next level. You then tell the Mixx Hive Mind (I take you guys have one of those, right?) to post these spam threads with random spam comments of other Mixx users that have also been sent to this plain of internet existence, or shadow-land as it shall now be called. You send the spammers their own community spam back at them. The ultimate prison/re-habitation center because they never know they have been damned - they'll just think things have become A LOT spammier.

  7. I like the idea of nested comments.

  8. Some requests:

    a) Hide the 20 - 30 dead MFA Mixx "communities" that take up space on each post due to automated submission. You can't find the real groups anymore due to all the automated spammunities!

    b) Report content theft button needed. Content theft is much worse than spam on Mixx as it's spam hiding behind legitimate content that has been stolen. Mixx is infested with dozens of users who only submit stolen content to enrich themselves via ad revenue.

    c) Less complexity and feature creep more clarity and focus. Mixx has a myriad of features by now but nobody knows how to use them properly.

    d) Add image thumbs to normal posts.

    e) Make images, videos, and texts equal on the popular page.

    f) Add audio submission.

    g) Add popular posts on groups to popular page. Some posts remain unnoticed on Mixx while they get 10 or more votes in a group.

    h) Let submitters decide if they allow communities and groups to grab their content. My submissions searched via Google are all in the spammunities while the originals are "duplicate content".

    i) Add a "wrong URL this is original source" option for Super Mixxers to fight content theft.

    j) Force people voting down stuff to add a reason why they do so (like at Sphinn), stuff gets randomly voted down more and more for no apparent reason.

    k) Display all the others that voted for a submission.

    l) Show only active tags, categories and groups on my Mixx like in RSS readers. Not months old stuff.

Keep up the good work. :-)

  9. @onreact.com those are some great suggestions, particularly the content theft stuff.

  10. @cmcgill How about a private RSS feed to "My Mixx"? I sent an email about this to feedback@mixx.com some time ago. Google Reader gives me the option to send out a "secret" URL to my friends so that I can share all or part of my RSS feed to them. At the moment I am using Google Reader to read the "Popular" RSS feed. Lately it has begun to suck because of all the "Bollywood" and "Make Money On The Internets" crap. I have blocked those users who have been submitting these but I only get the benefit of blocking them if I view "My Mixx". If you're not able to make private RSS feeds, then at least give me the configuration option to switch "My Mixx" from the currently categorized view to a single paginated list. Give me option to configure how I want the list to be sorted, etc.

Oh, if you're going to put in threaded comments, please leave the current "single threaded" view as the default and give us option to switch to nested view *per submission*. For instance, there's a great discussion you're following on one submission. You switch to nested view to make sense of who's replying to who for that submission only. When you view other submissions you still get the single threaded view unless you switch to nested view too.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

EDIT: Oh, and ability to filter out submissions based on keywords in the submission title. There are some users here who submit good content but there are times that the stuff they submit contains NSFW words or irritating childish name-calling towards a particular company in Redmond.

  11. McGill don't bother about all that stuff right now. Seriously, you just need to pool your resources into:

    #1 'Sound Cannons'
    #2 A Mixx-Hell/Shadow Land
    #3 Remote Electric Shock Therapy
    #4 A Doom Sphere

We don't need a senate. Fear will bring the Mixx userbase into line....

  12. @ih8mondays yeah, keyword filtering for yourmixx would be nice

I wonder who you're talking about

    • (0 Kudos received)
  13. @cmcgill

Unlimited reports = less frustration for me, so it's good news

I was trying to find new creative ways of replying to that nice
automated message telling me to take it easy because you guys
didn't want me to hurt myself. That was nice but still kinda in the way
of "Truth, Justice and the Mixxing Way". ;-)

The rest is good too... Thanks! :-)

"j) Force people voting down stuff to add a reason why they do so (like at Sphinn),
stuff gets randomly voted down more and more for no apparent reason."

True, I've also noticed some blind down voting activities that seemed based on seeing
the submission's title only: whoever are doing it (yep, I've noticed at least two doing that)
can't be bothered to check the story before letting their political prejudices take over their brains...
(That tends to show when they comment on the story they haven't read, by the way)

It's the online equivalent of burning books in a way. At least, if I see a submission that I can't
upvote for political reasons, I still respect the fact that it's not just what I believe in that has the
right to be out there and don't go down voting it like a closet censor.

Oops!... I think I only meant to say "I agree with you" but kinda got carried away there.
So, yep... I definitely agree with you ;-)

  15. @DarkNemesis618
    >I wonder who you're talking about

Heheh. Definitely none of those who have made comments to this submission so far. But The One I am talking about also voted this up. Clue: childish name-calling + redmond wash. software company

I could block this person but then some of the content that he/she submits is actually good.

    • (0 Kudos received)
  16. @ih8mondays yeah, thats why i would love to see keyword filtering...might not be able to filter all of that name calling, but you'd get a good chunk gone.

  17. Do away with 90+% of blind voting by only activating the ability to vote once the link has been clicked?
It would make blind voting a lot more labour intensive and mean less profit for spammers on Mixx.....is it still really easy to vote a story up on Digg.....maybe they'd just go back there?
