  1. I think that falsely claiming that a card has been declined must violate credit card company rules. The trick would be proving it.

  2. i think the writer of the article finally got the point right there at the end -- that trying to put everything on the card because he was financially strapped is *bad*. and though he said he "paid all his bills on time", if he was paying only the minimums and running up his balance more and more, the credit card company is likely (in these tight economic times) to re-evaluate his creditworthiness. i doubt the CC companies are just randomly cutting people's credit lines just to be jerks about it - there are spending and paying patterns that are signs that an account-holder is going downhill financially, and that's a good time to pull some of the risk.

    i think we all got used to the credit card co's enabling us to go downhill, even raising our limits. it's probably a very good thing that those days are behind us.
