  1. Glenn,

  2. Why do "conservatives" ridicule any effort to, you know, "conserve"?

They have been making fun of Jimmy Carters suggestion to "wear a sweater and keep the thermostat lower" because "god dammit, we are Americans! We won't cramp our style and we wont change our ways. Wasting our hard earned money by wasting scarce natural resources is sound economics!

Wearing a sweater in the winter is so anti-American that any REAL patriot would strip down to his underwear, open the windows, and turn the heat up to 90.

a Chinese proverb says that "even the largest pile of rice is composed of single grains"

our habits are cumulative. we can either bit-by-bit save a pile of rice,
or we can bit-by-bit waste a pile of rice.

tip; never take financial advice from a conservative. they are usually "big hat. no cattle" people who have an image of wealth, but no real net worth. it is exceedingly difficult to LOOK wealthy and BE wealthy.

  4. It seems that Mr. Beck has the same affliction that plagues many energy policy conservatives: lack of insight and foresight. The notion that small changes in daily routines are an impossibility is a creation of modern American fatcat attitudes. The USA of 60 years ago had nowhere near the wealth and power that we've amassed since the end of the Cold War, why then could they mobilize toward a common good while we are left floundering? I've mis-spoken. We can mobilize but only when 'shock and awe' are involved, and we've all seen the aftermath of those well laid plans. Mobilizing our economy and culture toward solving our energy crisis in a long term way either by progressive government, business or small scale consumer actions is a win win in every respect.

I'm sure Mr. Beck is aware that oil is a finite resource and that it will become more difficult to find regardless of where we intend to drill in the next fifty years (and expensive might I add). I'm also sure he sees that who-ever is left with an oil driven economy will crumble when that resource dries up. But like his fellow conservatives he choses to do nothing about it. Why would he...theres great grandchildren for that kind of problem right? Just because you don't agree with empowering Americans to solve a problem (and Mr. Beck's 300 million retirement is not one of them) doesn't mean its not a plausible solution. Have a little more faith in your countrymen.

Its too hard to change your life an iota for the greater good. This is the brilliant insight Mr. Beck has added to the energy debate.

Let me make a comparison and please tell me how well you think it fits. Conservatives are like runners trying to keep up with the sun. They have their faces lit and they can see the light right up until the sun sets on them. If the USA isn't careful the rest of the world will leave us behind...and the energy policy decisions that face us are just the first step.

  6. how dare Mr. Beck calls the preachings of Masiah a gimmick .. shame on you Mr.Beck ..

  7. Masiah? Please run spell check before you post. I don't care if good progressive ideas regarding our energy are touted by Democrats or Republicans as long as they come from somewhere. Jimmy Carter made the mistake of telling the American people what they didn't want to hear in a time when global warming wasn't even considered. This time its different. People are aware and willing in many cases to make a change in some direction that will help their pocketbooks and the environment.

The point that energy experts are trying to make is that everyone can make minor changes to their daily lives and increase efficiency enough so we don't need to exploit more resources. Investing the capital instead in renewable resources would create much more energy in the long term than drilling offshore. This would allow economic growth to flourish and leave us on top when the bottom does drop out on oil supplies world wide. Hows that for energy independence?

  8. as someone with an educational background that includes amongst many other things, automotive technologies, i can tell you from a professional point of view that proper tire inflation does save gas. I've been using that technique for years. with tires at proper pressure you will use an average of an eighth of a tank less, per full tank of gas, than you would with under inflated tires.

have you ever tried to peddle a bicycle with under-inflated or somewhat flat tires? very difficult.
the same goes for your auto. the engine has to work harder to drive on improperly inflated tires, and it uses more gas to do it.

over inflated tires are not safe. your car may skip across the road surface because there is not enough tire in contact with the road in order to provide adequate traction.

check the manufactures spec plates for proper tire pressure. these are usually located on the door column.

  9. I like a good joke like everyone else, so your little routine would be funny if it weren't for the fact that you mock something that is actually a good idea. Anyone who mocks a savings of 800,000 barrels per day
