U.S. B-1 bomber explodes on landing in Qatar: Jazeera

47 votes

DUBAI (Reuters) - A U.S. B-1 bomber exploded while landing in a Qatari air base due to a technical fault on Friday, Qatar-based Al Jazeera television reported. The television did not say if anyone was

  1. AP is saying it was a B1-B, not a B-52

  2. @NaturalWoman

The reuters article reflects that, I'll send a message to Mixx to change it.

  3. Just to set the record straight, it was a B-52 in the original article. Al-Jazeerah probably published what they had, when info was kinda scarce. They fixed it now.

  4. We fixed it- great submit!

  5. @bianconeri

I figured that much. No worries. Hell its still a BIG A$$ plane exploding either way.

  6. @Bdog2g2
I was just gonna ask that, I know the b-52, never heard of the b-1. How much of a difference is there? Size-wise?

  7. My husband flew B-52s for a decade so I didn't want it to be a "buff" that crashed. The B1-B was designed to replace the B-52 but that has never happened. Apparently, you can't make a really fast bomber with that big of a payload capability.

BTW: latest reports say the crew walked away from this.

  8. @bianconeri

The B1-B is much smaller, but that's so it'll weigh less for supersonic flight. Like NaturalWoman said, you can't make a fast bomber with a big payload so the B-52 was kept in service. The problem with the B-52 is the fleet is so old, they don't make the replacement parts for them anymore, although I believe Boeing has been trying to make some.

  9. B52's are huge...i've seen 'em on the runway out at March AFB and their wings actually sag a little.

  10. @yoda
To say the chicks are huge and their "wings" are sagging isn't exactly kind to them is it? I mean, I know they're old, but c'mon! That's just rude.
    ;)

  11. @yoda
If that wasn't clear, you need to visit the Love Shack some time.

  12. @Honest_Ape the whaaaaaaaaaaa?????

    "love shack, baby.
    love shack, BABY!!

in my car as big as a whale?
    about to set sail?

  13. @Honest_Ape are you telling me to go out and get laid? yeah, i should, you are right.

  14. @yoda
Sorry to tell you this, but chicks will probably have a hard time getting past the green skin and wrinkles.

  15. @Honest_Ape not after they see what i can do with my "light sabre" dude.

they will never leave me alone after i levitate them..... ;-)

    "for luck"

  16. @yoda
I was talking about the green skin and wrinkles on your "light sabre". You should really see a doctor for that.
