10 Facts About Pee-wee's Playhouse view story

40 votes

mentalfloss.com — I used to adore Pee-wee’s Playhouse as a child. But when Adult Swim began showing old episodes of it on the Cartoon Network a couple of years ago, I was kind of stunned. How insane was this show?

  1. "Rob Zombie and John Singleton as production assistants and Dweezil Zappa, Todd Rundgren, George Clinton and Danny Elfman as composers. OK, the weirdness of the show is starting to make more sense."

OK thats my favorite part of the article, who knew.

  2. I absolutely loved watching PeeWee's playhouse when my children were little. I guess that makes me a little weird, but it was so entertaining. I think PeeWee was the antithesis of Mr. Rogers! lol Great find!

  3. Nice find mortalwind. I loved the show. It was the best show at the time and still is a great one. One of those shows and characters that can never be recreated or reinvented for the next generation.

With all the up-in-coming celebrity mentions, kinda reminds me of all the people and bands that played on The Adventures of Pete and Pete such as the one and only Iggy Pop and Luscious Jackson.

  4. I love Peewee! But then I tend to miss these small facts and they really do make a difference on how Peewee would not be a big hit without these facts.

  5. I remember waking up every Saturday morning, grabbing a nice big bowl of some suger-packed cereal, and making a beeline to the living room to watch PeeWee's playhouse! I used to LOVE it! Jambi and Chair-y were my favorites!! Oh! And the King of Cartoons! haha

I've watched a few reruns lately on Adult Swim, and I'm baffled as to why I loved it so much..I couldn't make it all the way through one episode...ah, how we grow up so fast..

I'm same way with the movie "The Neverending Story." I could not watch that movie ENOUGH times!! Now I just can't watch it period :)

  6. Okay, I had to comment and admit I loved Pee Wee's Playhouse. I've never really watched reruns and from reading the comments here, I don't want to. I want to remember it as that magic show that I just couldn't wait to see and be amazed with. :P When I found out Pee Wee was playing with his Wee Wee in a gay porn house I decided to just try and remember Pee Wee in his house, not the theater. LOL.

  7. Lawrence Fishburne was Cowboy Curtis - man I'd totally forgotten that - too funny. Wonder how high up he puts that on his resume.
