Mixx Getting Redesigned? Rumors Fly, Fingers Cross

nethackz.com — While the banning of Digg users has been well publicized recently and capped by the banning of the #3 digger of all time, it was during Zaibatsu's interview that a hint was dropped.

  1. I really, really hope it's true. I love Mixx, but it could desperately use a good freshening up.

    1. @DiffeeOnline Start a thread over on the Mixxingbowl (or here) and let us know which areas you think could use freshening up. We're curious if it matches our opinions :)

The drop down menus must go. It takes forever to add categories and groups because you have to submit them one by one (after you have initially submitted the article and want to RE-MIXX). So if I want to submit this article to some of my groups, it takes FOREVER. Would be better to have check-marking system here too. In general, for those of us who have a ton of groups and like to be thorough, it can be quite time consuming to submit after the initial submission. Also it would be fantastic if TAGS could be automatically generated.

    3. @Kerry PS. Is there anyway GROUP ADMIN could be killed as well? It generates the worst crap!

  2. I have loved the basic interface of mixx, untill this last update the one with the hidden vote buttons and the reversing view story and story details. It seems like they have been adding clicks. I feel like good mixxers are bieng punished for the sins of spammers. Mixx should stay on the honor system instead of trying to impead spammers in ways that lessen the experience for everyone else. I still love mixx and the community is the best I just want to be able to stay active without it taking me so long to do so.

  3. Ha! I love a good rumor! :-P

    1. @jgarber

Is it really just a rumor?

      • (0 Kudos received)
    2. @VioletPlanet it's more than a rumor, but as our last blog post hinted at, it's more evolutionary than revolutionary. Look next week for some tweaks to login, comments and a new "timeout" feature to deal with misbehaving Mixxers. More revisitng scheduled for comments, your Mixx, submitting, profiles, story pages, etc.

And we got your suggestions about re-mixxing. It's on the list.

Can't wait. One of the things I love about Mixx is the beauty, simplicity of the layout and how well organized it is. Digg, Fark etc. are so cluttered and messy looking. Mixx is pretty! We like that! Also it would be fun to create some new awards...Top SPAM eliminator? No other social media sites that I know of reward users for assisting in SPAM elimination.

RE: Misbehaving Mixxers: HMMMMM Misbehaving it what way?

      Thank you!!!

Misbehaving users like spammers, revenge down voters, etc. I'm looking forward to the "timeout" feature, just hoping that it will work the way I'm thinking it will.

    5. @StandardsDT

Yes I am wondering about that as well. There is quite a bit of SPAM and/or extremely Low Quality submissions on Mixx (but not as bad as Digg). Also, I feel any submissions that portray women (or men) naked in an exploitive way should be relegated to PRIVATE status or banned altogether. There is enough of that crap on the web in general...

    6. @VioletPlanet

Oh I know. I reported at least 20 submissions that were sexually explicit and only one of the users got banned so far. Hoping the rest will as well, but if they don't I'm also hoping the "timeout" feature will be applied to them. Take a look in the entertainment and tech sections and go under recent. If you scroll through each page there's so much spam that I spend at least a good hr some times reporting people, while submitting.

    7. @StandardsDT We're behind in our abuse reports (104 as I'm looking at them now ;-D) We'l get them all.

    8. @StandardsDT

Yes, me too...I spend a lot of time reporting SPAM. Have you seen those SPAM COMMUNITIES? Go to COMMUNITIES and look at new groups OR do a search using NUDE or DOWNLOAD. I report those as well. The fastest way to report submissions I have found is to just do a keyword search "NUDE" or "NAKED" and you can do one for "DOWNLOAD(S) for all those illegal sites that encourage downloading 1st run films etc.

Hi Kerry, See my last reply to STANDARD DT. If you really want to get all the SPAM do what I suggest above.

    10. @Kerry

That's what I was thinking since our last conversation. I remember you telling me last week that you hadn't gotten a chance to look at the abuse reports one night. I was just making conversation that's all :)

    11. @VioletPlanet

Never saw the Spam Communities I'll have to check em out to see what your talking about. Never thought about doing the search. I'll have to do the search when I'm at home, it's kind of hard to be able to do that when I'm at work. Thanks for the tip, this should greatly help me with reporting!

You're welcome! And do keyword search "WALLPAPERS" too. Tons and tons!

  4. Working for the government (US), I have found that nothing stays the same for long. Likewise, a growing internet presence such as Mixx will be evolving as the mixxer's change, the technology changes, and as situations arise that need to be taken care of. I don't doubt there will be design changes in MIXX, I wouldn't be surprised if there were changes periodically, at least twice a year.

  5. Just don't end up like digg....which is why I came here in the first place ;)

  6. The level of spam and miscategorized submissions has got to go. It turned me off heavily here at first. I would rather use Sphinn where it is purely my Interests. Spam does not stand a chance there.

Also any social bookmarking site is not about submitting your own content. If I wanted to read your blog I would, I don't want to read it here.

Profiles that do nothing but bury articles should be identified and removed, let's not turn into Digg with a privileged few and bury brigades slamming SEO and Internet marketing oriented sites.

How about a catagory for SEO and Internet marketing? I would happily read those and get that stuff out of Tech where it does not belong.

    Cheers - Chris Lang

Hi Chris., I believe there is a COMMUNITY for SEO & Internet Marketing. RE: Social Bookmarking: Mixx is much more than Social Bookmarking. It is a social media community. If I want to bookmark, I'll do that in my Browser or Magnolia!

I do agree Mixx could use more categories in general. I would love to see a HISTORY category. READDIT has one and it is great! RE: SPAM: Yes, the amount of SPAM from India is insane.

    2. @VioletPlanet
behind the scenes, tags= categories, really. So a "category" is just a tag that we picked out to highlight in our navigation.

By placing the tag "history" on YourMixx, it sort of becomes a category--in that you have a shortcut to submit things to the history category/tag during submit AND you have a shortcut to read stories/photos/videos others have submitted to the history category/tag.

      Make sense?

    3. @ChrisLang Repeating my comment to VioletPlanet--

Tag something SEO and you are essentially getting the same functionality at a "category" SEO.

    4. @Kerry

Yes it does....but I think History should just be OUT THERE for all to see. It is just as important as Science, Education etc. History is the Future!
