As Congress considers spending millions more on the military's top rifle, the Colt M4, the lucrative contract is being criticized as a bad deal for American forces as well as taxpayers.

  1. Decisions decisions. The HK416 is a bad little boy but the XM8 is a lot more versatile and looks bad ass as well. The XM8 can change it's own functionality with use of peripherals, which is pretty damn cool. If you need to go form shoulder fire rifle to Automatic suppression, the XM8 can do it. I gotta say though, in both long range and close quarter combat I have to go the the trusty M4. It has never let me down. BUT if I have to take somebody down over 500 yards out, I still love the M16. But to each their own.

  2. @SilentJay74 yeah, the videos i've seen of the XM8, the reading about it made it seem far superior to the M16 and M4. Unfortunately it seems that bureaucracy cancelled the weapon's possible integration into the military. Wikipedia's page shows it as cancelled. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM8

    AK-47:

    * Submerged under bog water for months. Still fires.
    * Buried under sand for months. Still fires.
    * Ran over by a Humvee. Still fires.
    * Left under snow for months and frozen. Still fires.

  6. Remember that our weapons are the one's made by the lowest bidder that's why the M16 and the M4 still survive as weapons of choice.
