    1. @lid I think someone is trying to sabotage Digg so that it can be sold off cheaply after it has lost it's most important assets, it's power users!

  2. I was banned as well.... Oh well.... :-\

  3. Whoaaa, and Tamar hasn't even been back on for that long

  4. Sorry to hear that - there are many yet again. Boy - what I'd give to be a fly on the wall in the Digg offices...

  5. They banned OptimusPrime, but he's not even around. He hasn't been around for a week or so, and is away until the end of the month.

  6. I am stunned by some of the people on that list!! Wow

  7. I hadn't even built my friends list back up yet and now they are gone...crazy!

  8. this is just wrong!...they are banning almost everyone who made digg what it is...

  11. Try telling digg that I didn't use a script. Still waiting for them to answer my email, I guess I should stop holding my breath.

    • (6 Kudos received)
    1. @cosmikdebris do not hold your breath. I tried to appeal to them... but they have no mercy:-(

      • (1 Kudos received)
    2. @cosmikdebris

hey cosmikdebris. fuck digg. they are banning all the talent. Kevin and Alex dont even understand their own creation, and are destroying the very thing that gives it value. Digg is nothing without quality submissions, comments, etc.

Move all that energy to other sites like mixx, and suddenly digg isnt going to be worth $300 million, and mixx gets a whole lot better.

in some ways, digg is a victim of its own success, like youtube. after it became popular with the general public, things went downhill.

if anyone out there is a lurker looking at mixx, sign up and give it a try. youll love mixx.

      • (1 Kudos received)
  12. These people made Digg what it was. It is not the same Digg. Mixx will probably surpass Digg sooner than anyone expects. The people here at Mixx are human, not robots. Long Live MIXX!

    1. mixx is better but there is no traffic here when stuff hits the front page :(

      • (4 Kudos received)
    2. @RegretfulMorning - we are working on that. If there is something you would like to see that we don't have, make sure to send us some feedback@mixx.com

      • (0 Kudos received)
    3. @RegretfulMorning what site after only a year in the wild can produce the traffic Digg can? Give it time, if more see what Mixx has to offer and come over, that will change...be patient, give it some time, and you'll see!

      • (0 Kudos received)
    4. @RegretfulMorning
That will change in time. The more people we can get here, the better.

      • (2 Kudos received)
    5. @marchdoe I've been directing people to mixx for quite some time, hopefully we will start to see the "mixx effect" soon!

I might suggest that you get a button that has a counter on it like digg and reddit have. After that its just a matter of convincing the bigger sites (cracked etc) to add those buttons to their site.

      • (1 Kudos received)
    6. @RegretfulMorning Why do you people care how much traffic hits the front page? Let it go; just enjoy the content that's here.

      • (0 Kudos received)
  14. digg is so last year, dahling, everyone who's anyone is here at Mixx now.

    • (5 Kudos received)
  15. Look

I am telling you all this with sincerity
This has been going on for some time now
And it started with MY banning almost a year to today

    Wake up
Rose and Adelson do NOT care about your contributions
They care about ad-clicks and revenue

    It's different here at Mixx
You can help us make this bigger and better than Digg

Come and hang out with us here; help us let this awesome freakin' site grow

    • (6 Kudos received)
  16. Perfect timing, looking at our roadmap, we have some goodies for you guys (and gals). Some are coming real soon, that is all I can say.

Wanna come on Social Blend and tell us :D :D!!

    2. @cGt2099 - sorry can't give too much away. That is like knowing your Christmas presents before you open them. I would love to come on social blend but can't tonight. Need to refuel and get some more work done (your a tough bunch to keep happy ;) jk).

      • (1 Kudos received)
  17. They (digg) are using this script excuse for banning-no! That's B.S. I have a strong feeling they are banning users for always digging their friends submissions.Just my strong assumption.

    • (1 Kudos received)
  18. This is just disgusting. I cannot believe that everyone that Zaibatsu listed was using scripts and deserved banning.

Something is rotten in the state of Digg.

    • (1 Kudos received)
  19. I got banned. Woohoo! Guess it's mixx, reddit and stumble for me from now on.

    Just so you know:

NO warnings. At all. I used a digg it script because Digg is and will remain the slowest site in the world. I stopped using the script right when Digg blogged that first warning. Still banned.

The only people celebrating this are those who make NO contribution to digg. Way to go.

But let's be honest -- Digg is doing it only for the money. They want more pages opened, so more ad revenue. Remember when they used to let users digg from anywhere? Don't put money in their alexa stock.

    • (2 Kudos received)
  20. Crap - I lost over 20 of my friends during the first banning - I think I have at least 20 more. :-( This is truly upsetting. I'll have to be more active on Mixx - alot of my friend here are (were) friends on Digg. Anybody who (was) my friend on Digg and want to add me on - go right ahead!

    Are these permabans?

    • (1 Kudos received)
  21. Maybe interesting found this
    "Hi from Digg.com,

Your Digg.com account, xxxxxxx has been permanently banned due to egregious violations of the Digg.com TOU (www.digg.com/tos) related to script usage.

Section 5.8 of the Digg TOU states, in part:

    Additionally, you agree that you will not: take any action that imposes, or may impose in our sole discretion an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on our infrastructure; (ii) interfere or attempt to interfere with the proper working of the Site or any activities conducted on the Site; or (iii) bypass any measures we may use to prevent or restrict access to the Site;

On September 8, 2008 Digg posted a blog entry explaining script tools, why they are in violation of our TOU, and that we would be increasing our investigations related to script usage: http://blog.digg.com/?p=162.
Because we must be vigilant in protecting against activities that compromise the Digg community, this decision is final and irreversible.

    Digg Support"

    1. @stejules - The way I understand it, people that are being punished were just using the API that digg put out for the public to use. If they have such a problem with it, they should shut off their API.

      • (1 Kudos received)
  22. Hmm get banned when you haven't submitted to digg in weeks http://socialblade.com/digg/diggfpdata.php?user=Charbarred

    • (2 Kudos received)
  23. This is just sick. I'm absolutely floored, and it takes a lot to do that. There may even be more, as a friend of mine messaged me today that he had been banned, and he's not listed here.

    • (2 Kudos received)
  24. Was just beginning to get a decent network going on Digg and now a whole stack of them are gone!! Must've been that kind of crowd your parents warn you about when ur just a kid ;-)

There were a few people in that list that I'm pretty sure weren't using scripts?

    • (0 Kudos received)
    1. @Kronich

Me for one. I don't use, just deal!

      • (2 Kudos received)
  25. Yes i was banned from digg today ( i was inactive since 09/28/08) for so called scripts which i stopped using after 1st blog post and digg staff said they can't unban me.

    Well digg here's the news for you;

"You will jump the shark very soon, mark my word".

Digg's 1% active users who bring content to the site will be soon all gone. Digg will soon no longer have the loyal users coz every one will start thinking why we should spend time on digg when they will ban us eventually.

Hell I'm still waiting for a reply off the impolite buggers.

    2. @optimusprime01
PRIME! Stay with us, bro. We'll look after ya :)

      • (1 Kudos received)
    3. @optimusprime01 Completely agree. Digg listened to the complainers (some of whom have less than 100 diggs over three years) and said, F-it, let's ban our most active users.

The worst part is, a simple warning would have sufficed. "Permanent Ban". like the program has all the control.

I asked if I could re-register, and their response was don't try to use Digg again. This has to be the best news for Mixx and all the rest.

Why doesn't Digg just change their banner to, "Go Join Mixx"

Congrats Mixx, this has to be the best news for you. Watch for some substantial growth.

      • (1 Kudos received)
  26. I'm furious, they are banning for reasons other than "script abuse", I am 100% sure of that.

    • (1 Kudos received)
    1. @iraq Dude I don't doubt it. Well guys welcome to Mixx and hang out with us for a while. Let's make MIxx stronger then Digg and flip them off while we do it!

      • (5 Kudos received)
  27. This is archeologist. I just got banned today too without any warning. I've been busy with school lately so I'm shocked that they think I'm gaming the system.

    • (0 Kudos received)
    1. @Mastrmind
Dude, seriously, just stick here with us. Mixx is a much cooler place. People are actually nice here. Oh and the coolest thing? The Mixx staff actually LISTEN to us. They do! No shit! Pretty cool, huh?

      • (1 Kudos received)
    2. @Mastrmind welcome to Mixx dude, I think you'll find it a GREAT, growing community....more welcoming if you ask me.

      • (0 Kudos received)
  28. Here's what I recommend, let all rally behind Mixx and make this the site that we share stories that we care about.

I'll show you guys how to use proxies and change your Digg footprint so you can game the hell out of the site. Why play nice, why care. I know I don't... so stay tuned to the Zaibatsu channel and we'll have some fun.

But Mixx is full of good people, great and timely content and all of our old friends

  29. It's nice to know that all of my banned digger friends are coming over here. Not active on Mixx yet but really leaning towards it after all the bullshit over at Digg. It's just not fun anymore when you have the fear of being banned after every time you click the "Digg" button. Really, what is the point of "social media" when the social aspect of it is taken out by all your friends leaving (or being banned)?

    • (2 Kudos received)
    1. All I can say is, this social media stuff should come with a handbook for people like me who are, ahem, a bit older. I didn't get banned, but I screwed up the last time people got banned by posting comments without knowing how things worked, and users I'd never heard of stalk-shouted me for weeks. (Nobody told me about scripts until afterward, so I did shoot my mouth off too much. Yeah, I'm a dumbass. I thought I was helping.)

That being said, I think Digg is going to lose a lot of regular users like me, because I can see now how these bans have affected the quality of the content. Not to mention the comment threads. So I'm going to try Mixx a bit, and see if I can find people who are a little more tolerant than Digg & Co. So add me as a friend if you like!

      • (1 Kudos received)
  30. What do you guys think of Reddit compared to Digg/Mixx?

    • (0 Kudos received)
  31. Reddit is good (traffic wise), but confusing as hell. Mixx is cleaner, all they now need to do is pump some outgoing traffic and the switch from Digg will accelerate more.

    • (0 Kudos received)
  32. I'm LdsAskMormon on digg, or I WAS! LOL

Crazy, because I am nobody... just a little old Nana:-)

I now know what a "script" is though. I would publicly like to thank my "friend" who shared the little tool with me though. I'm fast being educated.

I am missing being shouted at... so come and be my friend....

I plan on spending a lot of time here, and over on SU:-)

    • (2 Kudos received)
  33. Was banning a good idea? How's this for a comparison:

    http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/digg.com (dropping)

    http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/mixx.com (up, up and away!)

    • (1 Kudos received)
    1. @Lance4 hearing that loud and clear ;-)

      • (1 Kudos received)
  34. Fellow banned diggers come here to Mixx and stay. Grab some popcorn or your favorite snack and be a part of the community. My account over at digg hasn't been banned yet, but seeing as people who have done nothing wrong have been banned it's only a matter of time till I see my username on that list.

This is really getting ridiculous. They claim they will email you back or will give you a warning, but from what I can tell that's been nothing but false.

What happened to caring about the users and listening to them?! I'm so glad that Kerry, Kori, Will, Chris and everyone else listens to their community. It's nice to have people who are in touch with their user base.

    • (1 Kudos received)
  35. Digg sucks

    • (0 Kudos received)
  36. This is just so sickening to see happen again to my fellow Digg friends, who are the heart of the good content on that site. The quality of the submissions has taken a definitive downhill turn as a direct result, although the whining wankers are happy to see their pathetic little cartoons make front page.

Look at their site data, Digg is going downhill!

    • (2 Kudos received)
  37. I just got banned to. What is sad is that they are banning people who have devoted a lot of time to their website. It is like thanks for your contribution, we don't care. Fuck you! I can't believe that a user community will not even listen to its users. They could do a better job educating people about their policies, and when mistakes are made they could give people a second chance. I think they will regret fucking over their users.

Anyone who hasn't seen this needs to http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/digg.com
They are plummeting and need to wake the fuck up.

    • (1 Kudos received)
    1. @pmg2007 I agree buddy, Digg is just a company just wanting to make more money. I understand that, but to kill off dedicated users is just sad.

      • (0 Kudos received)
  38. i think i figured it out...my job allows me to spend a whole lot of time on digg. I digg somewhere between 30 an 100 subs per day, i rarely submit, but i did have enough mutuals to to push something to the FP most of the time..i never gamed digg, and sure, i dugg some stuff i didn't like much if it came from someone who would digg my shouts...i am convinced that digg interpreted my digging and shouting as script generated activity due to the fact that i am able to spend so much time on digg, hence the statement from digg ..."permanently banned due to egregious violations of the Digg.com TOU (www.digg.com/tos) related to script usage."...BULLSHIT...i am a news junkie and normally would spend 8 to 12 hrs a day digging and commenting and reporting spammers and racist's...i hope we can make Mixx the new digg...we certainly have the talent here...Kevin, Jay and Jen can suck my balls...

    1. Digg is sending the message that it's for casual users only, it seems.

      • (0 Kudos received)
    2. @Basye And teenage trolls. Last night (Sunday), I was tired and wanted to look at something light for a change. I clicked on a silly front page item about a funny license plate. Okay, yeah, it was cute, made me chuckle.

In the comment threads were links to other funnies, as usual. I clicked on one, and guess what? Porn, with a browser hijacker. Although I know I should have known better than to click the link, it still pissed me off no end.

Long-time members who contributed so much get banned, and this is what Digg is left with? Seemed fitting to me, in a way.

      • (0 Kudos received)
  39. this comment thread > all of digg.

  40. I was Crackerpat on Digg as well when I was banned on Friday. Friend turned me on to mixx and now I am here. Looking forward to getting back with many of my friends that I lost on Digg!

    • (1 Kudos received)
    1. @Crackerpat glad to see you here my friend!

      • (2 Kudos received)
    2. @Zaibatsu Glad to be here!

      • (0 Kudos received)
  41. This is just sad, I feel the ban hammer over my neck right now, even though I never used any scripts (except for the diggboss one for 2 weeks only, and that isn't against the TOS)...I wonder if these bannings are only script related.

I have a theory that they might be after IMers also. And if that's true, a lot will be banned unjustly.

    • (0 Kudos received)
  42. Guys, get Mixx to sort out their ridiculous front page and actually get some traffic and it may be worth it. Mixx has obvious flaws and their marketing is for shit.

It's pointless being "cool" if you aint got the traffic.

BTW, my digg account is still there, never used scripts and don't digg for dollars. But I agree a lot of the bans don't make sense.

Mixx has an opportunity right now, but they seem to be a bit pansy ass about it.

    • (1 Kudos received)
    1. @Lyndoman
Wrong. The traffic from Mixx will come in time - it will come from the user base growing and more quality submissions from these new users. The more people we get here, the better. We need community growth first if there is to be a Mixx Effect. Remember, both Digg and Stumble had to start someplace as well. Right now, Mixx is at an excellent growth rate, and the traffic will come in time.

As for the front page, the crew behind the scenes of Mixx know there are some deficiencies and are working hard to fix that. As a matter of fact, I believe they're working on some things to help this process and hopefully we'll see them through this month at some stage.

And if that's not enough to please you, go ahead and email them your thoughts at feedback@mixx.com - or post a message to them in The Mixxing Bowl. They LISTEN to feedback, and you might have an idea or two that might be of great help to them.

If not, well, I can't help it if you're gonna sit back, bitch about traffic and whatnot. The traffic WILL come from growth; and growth will happen from proactive involvement. If you're not going to be proactively involved, stay on the sidelines.

Sounds blunt I know, but I am just calling it as I see it. I am not trying to come off as "obvious troll is obvious" or anything of the sort... Lyndoman, you and I have had commentary disagreements in the past, and they've been hearty debates... so please understand, I'm not trying to come off as all aggressive in this comment - just calling it as I see it.

I look forward to your response, if you have time.

      • (3 Kudos received)
    2. @Lyndoman

I have to second cGt2099 on this, Mixx is still in its infancy, its not even a year old if I'm not mistaken. If we get more people into the community, we'll drive more traffic to the links. Give it a bit more time, reccommend Mixx to more of your friends and you'll see it grow.

Simply put, comparing traffic generated by Digg to that of Mixx is of no contest, Digg has been around longer and has a bigger community. Mixx has a growing community and in my opinion a better one too. When the community grows, so will the generated traffic.

If you have some ideas, like cGt2099 said let Mixx know. feedback@mixx.com they listen unlike Digg.

      • (3 Kudos received)
    3. @cGt2099 I completely agree with you. Mixx has grown exponentially in the past year. It has proven that it is here to stay. Mixx's USP is the customized user-experience. They want to make sure their users are enjoying themselves while on the site. That leads to user retention and attracting new users. Mixx is literally a baby in the space, give it a chance to grow without hurrying it up. You don't want it to goof up like Digg is and has been for the past year or so.

While @lyndoman is concerned about traffic, he is forgetting another IMPORTANT metrics-- ENGAGEMENT.

      • (3 Kudos received)
    4. @Lyndoman You care only about traffic, then don't stay here. I'm tired of hearing this from users.

It means you care about one thing: shoving your own content and/or political propaganda in front of as many eyeballs as you can.

Some of us are here for content and community. Not for selfish self-promotion or to have our egos stroked by accumulating "e-glory"

      • (3 Kudos received)
    5. @Lyndoman I use mixx because the users treat one another with respect. I understand your complaint, but mixx isn't like digg-- for the most part we attempt to be mature about our opinions. If you're going to be rude and act like a 15 year old, do it at digg or reddit with all the other rude 15 year olds.

      • (2 Kudos received)
    6. @Lyndoman

Dude who cares about traffic? It's about the content and the community nothing more. Mixx is still small but it's making great strides because of it's community. Stop worrying about traffic and start caring about the content and community. If your so concerned about traffic then please stick to digg or reddit as the others above me have stated. The frontpage I find is better then diggs because you can customize what you want to show when you are signed in.

Sure there are some things that probably need to be addressed and it will be because the Mixx Team listens to their community. If there is an issue on the site you encounter, have a suggestion or anything just send the Mixx Team an email to feedback@mixx.com as previously mentioned by everyone else.

      • (1 Kudos received)
    7. @cGt2099 I hope you are right that I am wrong, it's good to have competing sites. However, this isn't a religion, it's a business. If the figures don't add up they don't add up.

I don't have a crystal ball, so I don't know if the site will improve. I hope it does.

I see things in a more dispassionate way than most people posting here, who are obviously fans and there is nothing wrong with that. So that most people want to take a pop at me is not surprising and it's not something I really take any notice off.

The problem is that mixx may be listening to you guys too much, you are fans, but you are not the constituency which mixx needs to win over. You may think you are important, but from a business point of view you don't actually create much revenue. But you are useful as evangelists for the site.

The important people mixx needs to reach are those who come to the site for the first time and go, "Naaah", leave and never leave feedback.

And obviously I am not here to make friends, lol, or troll. I just say it as I see it.

I would love to give the mixx guys feedback, I admire anyone who gets off their arse and creates something like this. But I don't really have the time as I have a few projects on the go. I do have thoughts though, but they would take a few days to collate and communicate.

Sorry it took me so long to reply.

    8. @Nomadelle Engagement doesn't pay the bills. Or the bandwith.

      • (0 Kudos received)
    9. @gbarberi "You care only about traffic, then don't stay here. I'm tired of hearing this from users."

You probably don't here it from those who do not stay, you only hear the tip of the iceberg. If your tired from it, then it's a shocking amount of people saying it. Not just me. This is a serious business, it's not a joke, real people have put their money and time in this site. It's not some street corner gang.

      Get real mate.

      • (0 Kudos received)
    10. @calinazaret and that is admirable.

      • (0 Kudos received)
    11. @Lyndoman For Mixx it does. Not everyone here is about promoting their own site or are in to Social Media for the money. But engagement on Mixx will pay Mixx's bill's. Digg or Reddit was not created to make the USER money. Nor was Mixx.

      • (0 Kudos received)
    12. @StandardsDT "Dude who cares about traffic?"

The guys who make the payroll at mixx, the guys who have to write the cheques. Boring, grown up stuff I realise. Do you realise how much a site like this takes to run.

If this site does not get traffic, it will die.

      • (0 Kudos received)
    13. @SilentJay74 How does that work then?

Websites make money in specific ways, engagement is an excellent thing to have, but how are you going to pay the bills?

      • (0 Kudos received)
    14. @Lyndoman I think people are getting confused. We care about Mixx's traffic for sure. What Standards DT is referring to is this: If I post an article on my blog, what traffic to my blog would I get out of Mixx? Personally I could care less if anyone reads my blog. I rant piss and moan on it. Also traffic to Mixx and retention are what we should be striving for. As the user base grows the traffic will come. That being said, not all of us are here for personal gain.

    15. @SilentJay74 still waiting to hear about how engagement will pay mixx's bills. I don't have the data, but I assume that the type of people who participate in threads like this do not click on ads. Which is probably the same at digg, my point is the type of user that is here expressing a point are great at providing engagement, but poor are helping mixx raise revenue for the site.

I am absolutely here for self interest and make no apologies for that, I am certainly not one of those west coast, hippy dippy types who thinks advertising is evil and everything should be free.

    16. @Lyndoman I shall counter your touche' with an off handed parry my good man. Tech Crunch, obviously user engagement there pays Arrington's bills. The more engagement in topics the more high end advertisers will pay for ad space. There is more to ads on the internet than just adsense. We all know drawing a high end advertisers might take time, and it is not like Google pays a whole hell of a lot on adsense revenue. Also a thread with high engagement from 4 days ago now had 117 comments. Not a bad place to see a possible Microsoft or Apple ad placement. Thoughts?
Also my good man I know of you and I do know you are highly respected in the SEO field. That being said, what would be your recommendations? We can easily point out a problem, it is finding solutions to those problems that make us great. :-)

  43. That list of people that got banned on Friday doesn't make any sense!

    • (1 Kudos received)
  44. Agreed with Lyndoman. Digg is going down fast, because they have a really shitty policy towards their users. Damn fascists. However, mixx has some issues as well. The community here is awesome, but the content is badly arranged, although its form is quite beautifully designed.

  45. digg is useless

  46. Digg is on crack. The people own Digg.

I agree that Mixx needs to step up. If they don't someone else will.

    1. @urban_writ

Mixx already has. Banned users are coming over here already and Mixx listens to it's users. If your concerned about traffic, please just forget about it for right now and focus on the content and community that makes mixx what it is :)

  47. meh, why are we giving digg any attention at all?

    notice how quiet i've been.

  48. Digg is crap, Mixx is user friendly but the bottom line is it brings no traffic.

    2. @SenorCoconut why not enjoy the content, community and conversation? Why is traffic so important. I'd take the conversation over traffic any day.

    3. @DarkNemesis618 good point, traffic and conversion are both vital, essential. If this site doesn't make enough money it will not exist.

  50. Okay. Here's a lengthy commentary about things I don't like talking about with some graphic language. Go ahead, enjoy it -- I don't do this very often.

First of all, the community at Mixx rocks. It's unsurpassed. You guys are freakin awesome without a doubt.

But you all have a serious problem. There's too much fucking Digg commentary everywhere on Mixx. As community members (obviously not as Mixx representatives), your marketing message is too much "stop using Digg and go to Mixx instead." As you can probably tell, that hasn't quite worked. How about you all just focus on tapping into other communities -- not Digg (which obviously is way too big so it feels like the *only* community to target)? Mixx's "failure" in capturing the community may be possibly attributed to the statement that "this is where Digg exiles go." Naturally, the discussion on Mixx completely reflects this sentiment. There's just too much "fuck Digg this, fuck Digg that" and nothing that actually talks about Mixx's strengths (besides community and besides the fact that *it is not Digg* -- which you can tell is not a strong enough reason by itself to be a self-sustaining community).

That said, I will identify myself as the one who gave Lyndon kudos for his previous comment. Mixx needs a community that's larger than a handful of people. Once that happens, the rest falls into place. Right now, i's not happening. Here's why:

I actually agree that Mixx does need a little more traffic. Right now, it's not much different than a forum with people sharing links all the time. It just doesn't feel "snug" to me. iI there were more people checking out the content, the forum element would still be there but the crux of Mixx -- that is, a social news site -- would be there. People always say "come to Mixx," but why should an outsider visit Mixx? What are they getting from it? They expect Mixx to be a social news site where people actually share links. That's not really happening here. I feel that Mixxingbowl has more "activity" than Mixx itself. Strange, right? I'd say so.

I go to conferences all the time where people talk about social media and sites to use to network and build community (and even to market). Today, I sat in a session and someone asked about putting their content on Mixx. One of the panelists said it wasn't even worth it because Mixx generated about 100 unique pageviews. While that may be fine and good for some of you who did not like what Lyndon had to say, this is NOT good for anyone who actually perceives Mixx to be a site about sharing stories. At the end of the day, Mixx's core business model is not actually being utilized and it will never yield repeat visitors due to this clear disconnect. Currently, Mixx's most ardent supporters are actually its oldest supporters. There aren't many new converts to Mixx who consider themselves addicted, and that needs to be fixed.

    1. One more thing - my grammar sucks because I just converted that whole thing from completely lowercase to capital letters and the "edit" link is gone even though I'm still within my 15 minute timeframe. (Feature request, please!) On that note, it'd be nice to link to comments on Mixx too.

      • (0 Kudos received)
    2. @tamar
so.....you're basically saying fuck digg and come to mixx? ;)

Just kidding. Agreed that traffic and diversity is what's needed to help Mixx push forward.
Compete shows its on a nice run: http://siteanalytics.compete.com/mixx.com/?metric=uv
but still needs more to grow.

Flocking behavior is important in social media...people naturally want to go to where the action is.

As far as the criticism of too much talk about Digg...this is a thread about the ban hammer of Digg's recent bans. So in this case, so much talk about Diggers coming to Mixx is well warranted. And there are several new faces to Mixx on here that were well known from Digg, so it is a good way for them to be noticed quickly. But I also agree with you - there is a "now what?" step that should happen once these folks become well established in Mixx.

I also see that Lyndoman has taken heat for his opinions on traffic. My friends, you want folks like Lyndoman to be critical of Mixx. That means Mixx is growing. Look at this post alone. Current count is 173 votes / 92 (93 with this one) comments. That's approaching Digg-like numbers. Sure, that's a microcosm of a much larger picture that is Mixx, but it's still an encouraging step in the right direction.

Numbers will come in time as long as there is sustained user engagement for everyone from the casual reader through the SuperMixxer. I've been a part of Mixx since early on, and will say that it's growth has been impressive. Time will tell.

      • (2 Kudos received)
    3. @nowsourcing Digg has always been a topic of conversation on Mixx. Sure, this is a Digg-related issue, but that's not why I brought it up. (And think about it: would this even make it on Reddit? Or even StumbleUpon? Come on...)

At the end of the day, it's nice to see numbers like Compete for growth, but it's nicer to actually see a very engaged and active community that actually keeps growing. I think Mixx may be seeing new members, but I'm not sure if they're sticking around for all the reasons I mentioned above.

      • (1 Kudos received)
    4. @tamar
Sure, plenty of early Mixxers came as a result of being critical to Digg. As are many of the new faces on this thread. Agreed that may not be enough to solidify an engaged audience, but it does say something: these folks were not happy (or banned in some cases) with Digg for a myriad of reasons: functionality, frustration, feature enhancements and the like.

It took Digg a while to build up to where it is today. It was also the first.

I grant you that Mixx is seeing new members and we'll have to see if they stick around for the long haul. All I was saying was that things were looking promising. And it feels good to be a part of that.

      • (0 Kudos received)
    5. @nowsourcing I'm not sure you're getting my gist here. How many new faces are hanging around and how is Mixx's future promising in reality given that nobody outside the walls of this community actually has anything positive to say about Mixx? Even Mixx's community members elsewhere are whining that Mixx isn't good enough. (If you're going to preach the same stuff I keep trying to refute, perhaps you need to actually LISTEN to the other conversations and stop pretending that it doesn't exist.) I still see the same old community, and I don't mean to offend here at all, but we're not seeing many people outside of Greg and Joe who are really the super super Mixxers of the community. And that's a problem.

Sure, it's great to be part of that, but get real, Brian. Mixx has seen growth from people interested in trying out the service, but as I said, they're not sticking around. If you refuse to acknowledge that and find that it's pretty damn cool to be one of the 5 people who use this site consistently, you're missing the boat. Mixx will not grow the way it should if people tell other people that it's not a social site that they should actually take seriously. "Promising" it is not.

The anti-Digg sentiment needs to fucking stop. This site will never last if everyone always mulls over being banned on Digg. Mixx needs to be unique and being a "not Digg" is not a unique selling proposition. Mixx's strengths are other things, not that it's not Digg. If Mixx would want to sell (and I have no idea if it does but am using this example for illustrative purposes only), how many people would buy simply because it's "not Digg?" And that's what I think a lot of people come here for -- to whine and congregate about being casualties of Digg -- fair enough, I guess, but the discussion everywhere on Mixx and the stories that actually have the most amount of votes are those that are related to Digg. That NEEDS to be fixed if Mixx wants to survive.

      • (0 Kudos received)
    6. @tamar Tamar that was a really good comment. And no we are not offended. But for us core Mixx users, how do we fix this? What would be your recommendation? I am not asking to be a smartass I am genuinely asking because I highly respect and value your opinion. So my question would be this:" What could we do as core users of the site to keep people hanging around? We have put a ton of time and effort into the community, as well as new member outreach. What else can we do?"

      • (0 Kudos received)
    7. @tamar The problem is that basically the content is spread all over Mixx, each story has dozens of URLs and people end up on one way streets with nobody there. They never come back. Also Mixx is far too complex for the average netizen to understand and use. That's why only a few people end up reading "popular" stuff which in most cases is either low quality or boring as just the same old media are featured or low quality artificially promoted sites, content theft is just the worst example.

      • (0 Kudos received)
    8. @onreact.com I think a lot of the SO CALLED POPULAR content needs to be regulated. To many blind voters voting up crap. And I 100% agree with you on content theft. Hell I'll call them out right now If you see FUN in the URL or even popgive, vote that scraped content down!

      • (0 Kudos received)
    9. @tamar first thing mixx should do is hire Tamar as a consultant. This is not a bullshit, I wanna get in with Tamar statement, this is acknowledgement that mixx needs serious people who are not afraid to tell it like it is. Free advice from the users is great, but you get what you pay for.

Mixx needs people who can see the big picture in a dispassionate way. I understand why people get emotional about the community, that's great. But sometimes the fan base is not the place to go for advice on growth.

Anyone who reads Tamar's blog knows she knows what she is talking about and she has enormous sway within the "social media maven" community, she even talks to selfish, self promoting, evil, linkbaiting bastards like me.

I don't have an emotional investment in mixx, but I respect those who do, I just don't think they are the best to give advice on how to get to the next step.

btw, anyone moans about my grammer and speeling should know I really could give a monkey's

      • (0 Kudos received)
    10. @tamar a number of mixxers seem to have a problem with digg, "There's just too much "fuck Digg this, fuck Digg that"" It's like some people see digg as the pretty girl who said to you she would rather lick the inside of a garbage can than go out you and so they go around trashing her.

Why do you care about digg?

mixx should be attracting people away from digg, not simply being a haven for those who get banned, and yes I am sure I will get banned one day, although I make sure not to break any rules.

Dammit, I really did not want to spend this amount of time on this. I am now getting ideas of how mixx can beat digg.

Those who know what I do professionally know this is not simply a geek in his underpants, spouting off in between DrPepper fuelled World of Warcraft sessions. Mixx should heed well the words of people who make cash from getting people to go to websites ;)

      • (0 Kudos received)
    11. @Lyndoman Mixx *should* beat Digg, but it's lacking the users and usability for that to happen.

I'd love for Digg to die.

  51. Hello everyone.
Yes, I too was banned from Digg. Thanks for letting me know about this site. I have also started a site at reddit for exdiggers and here is the link:
    http://www.reddit.com/r/ExDiggers/

I would really appreciate you subscribing and please submit some stories from there to show digg they aren't the only place in town. Also, I would be remiss if I didn't plug my blog (something digg hated) at http://lewp.wordpress.com/

Thanks, and I hope to start submitting some here as well.

    • (0 Kudos received)
    1. @lewpatt OK dude, seriously. It's not cool to plug other Social Media sites by saying, submit at reddit. And then asking people to subscribe. This is not a good way to make a good impression on Mixx. Mixx is not here for your Reddit submissions.
