      @loup.dargent how credible do you think this is? The Guardian kept saying "the author claims" as if they didn't look into it themselves?

      True, It seems to be a bit difficult to prove if Howard was a secret agent or not...

   It is not uncommon for a celebrity to be employed in this manner, they can get acess to countrys and leaders a lot eaiser then your average asset. Cool story though I love all that cloak and dagger stuff.

   Interesting and would make a good movie. Also, what about Julia Child who served as a US agent in WWII. She did not meet with Franco and keep Spain out of the war, though she must have done something to thicken the plot, or was it pot?

   What is it with these Brits? Our celebrities never do anything. But could you imagine if Truman Capote were in the FBI, along with J. Edgar Hoover?
