  1. >>José Rey-Xímena said that Howard, who was in a passenger aircraft
shot down by the Luftwaffe in 1943, had just been to a secret meeting with
General Franco, allegedly on a special mission for Winston Churchill,
who wanted to get a secret message to the Spanish dictator. <<

    1. @loup.dargent how credible do you think this is? The Guardian kept saying "the author claims" as if they didn't look into it themselves?

True, It seems to be a bit difficult to prove if Howard was a secret agent or not...

      >> Rey-Xímena said Howard's secret went down with the plane:
"He has never been recognised either as a spy or as a hero."<<

Hmmmm.... while checking the site to find some content to submit on here,
I noticed that it was still in their Breaking News section.

So, perhaps, they know that it's definitely not sheer BS ;-)

  2. It is not uncommon for a celebrity to be employed in this manner, they can get acess to countrys and leaders a lot eaiser then your average asset. Cool story though I love all that cloak and dagger stuff.

  3. Interesting and would make a good movie. Also, what about Julia Child who served as a US agent in WWII. She did not meet with Franco and keep Spain out of the war, though she must have done something to thicken the plot, or was it pot?

  5. First Roald Dahl, then Julia Child. Now Leslie Howard?

What is it with these Brits? Our celebrities never do anything. But could you imagine if Truman Capote were in the FBI, along with J. Edgar Hoover?

    I imagine a sitcom.
