linkbuildingbestpractices.com — ... And a Link Builder is Not an SEO. However, in my opinion, most SEO’s are not link builders and most link builders are not SEOs.

  1. This is a great post from a guy that I KNOW is an authority on the subject. When I have questions that need to be answered by an SEO professional, this is who I call!

    1. @ChrisLang what an authority eh? some that says such things must be an expert in SEO and link building, does he also promisses number in google in two week? lol

    2. @ChrisLang But who is it? There's not even a name! ;-)

    3. @onreact.com Read the parent article, it is NOT MY ARTICLE, it is Arnie Kuenn, of VerticleMeasures.com. That is evident.

You will have to start clicking thru to the parent article and reading it before you flame me here.

I am NOT an SEO expert and I have never claimed to be. I run my SEO questions thru people like this man who IS an SEO authority.

    4. Arnie Kuenn is a whitehat SEO expert, he builds links thru other sites that link to his clients because the content is great and the link is relevant. That is how whitehat links are built and how you gain Google rankings that are not based on spam links and the negative indicators Google will find in blackhat tactics.

    5. @onreact.com Sure it gives a name, you just have to read it. Let me guide you on this one to show you how you find such things out., perhaps it will help you and others in the future. :)

When you click onto the title of this item posted to Mixx, it will transport you to another web page that contains the full article. Near the top of that page, on the very first screen of my browser, there is a section right before the main article that says:

"About the Author: Vertical Measures is a reputable company providing quality link building, website publicity and social media marketing services." and it gives a website Address."

Below that section you will see the title "An SEO is Not a Link Builder" - on the very next line you will see that it says:

"By Vertical Measures on Thursday, November 6, 2008"

So obviously the article was written by Vertical Measures, but let's go on. If you want to know more about the Author, you can click on the About Us tab at the top of the page -- and then read what is posted there. You will find that it says:

"The company and its founders have a proven track record. Arnie Kuenn, and his team have more than 40 years of combined experience in the information technology field."

If you are not really concerned about the company, then obviously you are satisfied with the name the Author gave and move onto whatever you want to do next.

Now my read on this is that whoever wrote this article, be it Arnie Kuenn or someone else at Vertical Measures, the intent was to give everyone involved at Verticle Measures some credit for the information with-out having to name each and every one of them.

      Hope that helps!

  3. Next thing you know, they'll be telling us that social media isn't SEO, either.

    1. @remarkablogger Actually my SEO contacts all agree that social media has a huge effect on Google and Arnie Kuenn, Jeff Smith, Jennifer Horowitz and Charles Heflin all agree on that. Where in the parent post did Arnie say anything like that?

      • (0 Kudos received)
    2. @remarkablogger Maybe they will, but they will most likely be accurate if they do.

Basically Social Media is "The term social media describes media that is posed by the user and can take many different forms. Some types of social media are forums, message ..." (www.batchblue.com/glossary.html)

SEO is "Creating and improving a website so that it will rank high in the search engines and help potential customers or clients find the website." (www.legalinternetmarketing.com/seo-glossary.html)

They may tie in close together, but they may not be the exact same thing.

  4. very basic, over-generalized premise. i've yet to see specialty link builders actually acquire better links than SEOs. The claims of link builder "specialists" are often just a bunch of hype and hot air, as they follow the same paths and methods I would.

    1. @danielthepoet you are probably one of the rare ones who can actually do both well. You have to admit the many SEO & web dev agencies are just not good at or interested in building links for their clients. To many, it does not suite their creative juices.

  5. That's like saying a blonde female is not a woman. The two are one and the same. Link building belongs under the SEO umbrella and when done correctly, is one of the most efective and productive tools in an SEO's basket.

  6. Artificial link building is dead anyways. Since 2004 the majority of links comes from link baiting that is natural links that people "give you" without you asking for it.

  7. Hey lighten up everyone. The article was something I have been observing for years in other industries and found the same to be true in SEO. Yes, there are some SEOs & Web Designers who do a fine job of building links for their clients. But they are few and far between. If you are one of them kudos!

And most dedicated link builders don't know that much about web design or could not coach a big ecomm site on proper on-site SEO. Again, once in a while you find the rare person who does both extremely well.

My observation is that it boils down to the personalities involved. The classic sales vs. tech.

Since I am a classic link builder, I have come across many, many SEO and web development who do not build links for their clients. They just hate it. It's just not what they want to do. And many of them have become our clients.
