  2. I've never understood why marriage had to be defined as being between a man and a woman. I married my wife because I love her, not because of a need or desire to procreate. If I were a gay man or woman, I imagine that my desire to marry first and foremost would be because I love my "partner" and want to spend the rest of my life with them. That should be the basis for defining marriage - the love and commitment between two consenting adults who chose to spend their lives together. I am proud of this decision - not only does it celebrate a union formed in love, but it (hopefuilly) ends some appalling discrimination practices.

  8. The reality is leading to a tax loophole and that is all it chases after. I forsee more opportuity for scamming than embracing utopia of same sex unions. A pandora's box has been open. Example: a gay couple wanted a divorce in Massachusetts but there was no basis for it so it was denied. Crazy things like that will now boggle things in California even more. I see this as a blindsided decision by cramming the legal system until it yields. If you love someone nothing can take that away from you or them. Needing validation in a public court that your best friends to the basis of being gay to a point of marriage. Your really shooting for tax compensation not validation as a legal couple.

Well, in that case, why don't we ban all marriage? Do you think that no straight couple has ever married for benefits or convenience? Have you never heard of marrying to gain citizenship? So, by the logic of your argument, we should ban all marriage, right?

These arguments seem to me to be a way to validate the rejection of gay marriage for other, less politically correct reasons.

If you're against all marriage, fine. Otherwise, to exclude people from it is bigotry, plain and simple.

Hey, man, welcome to Mixx. We're not haters here for the most part. I vehemently disagree with you, but that doesn't make me hate you. If you can't have a free and open exchange of ideas, what's the point of having a comments section, right?

I'm curious why you feel as you do. Is it because you were raised believing that, or a combination of being raised that way as well as giving the issue some thought and agreeing with it? I don't mean the question as an attack, I'm truly interested. I know many, many Christians and Southerners both who are okay with the idea of gay marriage, and I'm interested in hearing why you think it's wrong.

Like I said, just because I think you're wrong doesn't mean we can't be friendly, right?

  13. @ Honest_Ape I was pondering last night how looney things could get. 2 mexican male or 2 female illegal immigrants aliens however your prefer to reference cross the border and then get married in Ca.?!?! Those are the crazy things I am talking about.

I do believe and was raised to believe marriage was between a man and a woman. If your a Amercian tax paying citizen your sexual orientation shouldn't discriminate. However if your single you don't get the tax breaks that a married couple does. The US Treasury Tax code does discriminate.

If I understand correctly this case was based on a gay couple parenting adopted children. I don't know the specifics but I do know that wacky crazy things are going to come out of the dark to play because of this ruling and I don't think marrying gay people is going to be the end of the world or the main showdown of problems! I do think Jerry Springer is going to benefit from this. You already have the polgymist garbage going on in Utah. Again I'm thinking about the extremes here.

I also think the dangerous thing about this ruling is there is another propostion with new language coming up in Ca.state elections that will shift the wording around. If you hear anything about it I am curious what those changes will be.

To me people are going to do what they are going to do anyways and whether you believe in God or not or agree to disagree. To me I see a lot of problems created that are most likely already there and just haven't come to public light. I see this ruling triggering a pandoras box of problems to public light.
