Managing Last.fm's mountains of data

dailytech.com — Last.FM co-founder Richard Jones says the biggest asset the company owns is 'hundreds of terabytes of user data.' Jones adds, '... playing with that data is one of the most fun things about working at the company.'

  5. Pandora's recommendation engine is much better than Last.fm's . I think Pandora would dominate if they worked more on the social networking component.

    1. @rageagainsttherobots i think Pandora is a US only site. last.fm seems to work worldwide at good speeds.

      You could use proxies or whatever, but it's too much trouble to bother with :) I like the social aspect of last.fm. I like friending people there with dissimilar taste in music so that I can find new stuff to listen to . And I like when bands I haven't heard of message me and I can tune into new stuff. Pandora doesn't give me that.
