  1. I live very near to Oakland and this is a very dreadful situation. Besides the actual shooting, there was just too much of a time lag before anything was done. And on and on.

    1. @itvwoman Oakland California is a powder keg. I worked in Clorox Canyon for many years and never felt that the city was safe as there is too much poverty and too much crime.
There are too few quality employment opportunities for working class people such as manufacturing industry. The political leadership doesn’t get it.
Consider the fact that Jerry Brown was recycled as Mayor and now you have Ron Dellums. These guys peaked and fill the ranks that should be filled by fresh new leaders. This happens because the community and power structure is tired. The whole place is a retread.
There is no excuse for this because UC Berkeley should be more active in community development. Government leaders like Congresswoman Barbara Lee are self-centered and irresponsible –old style politicians the likes for which Obama has disdain.
The place needs a complete overhaul. I tried to make an effort by helping create a center for electronic commerce there. We couldn’t leverage government support into commercial initiative because the culture was too much a welfare mentality.
There are many great people in the community, and many bright youth, but the old guard is stifling.
Maybe a 60’s style revolution is in order instigated by incompetent police and administration.

  2. If only black people could focus on their job as much as they focus on rioting.
