  1. Think about it, a direct cutover from Windows to GNU/Linux is perceived to be pretty hard for most people that haven't tried GNU/Linux before. If the capability to CHOOSE were available, a lot of people that normally wouldn't think of trying GNU/Linux would now have the option(and they would see it every time they startup their computer). This would ween scores of users off of Windows and result in wider GNU/Linux adoption. It's a Win-Win!

  3. If you use all GNU/Linux machines at home like me, this idea will be hard to agree with. But GNU/Linux needs to grow legs at the OEM computer suppliers and by giving people CHOICE and a chance to use GNU/Linux rather than forcing an "one or the other" decision is likely going to continue to err on the side of Windows. Believe me, I'm not one to support more Windows sales (especially 'Wista" - ha!), but just consider how many more users would adopt GNU/Linux if it were installed and available for use on every machine that sells with Windows.
    We all keep seeing these articles about "How to switchover to GNU/Linux", well the idea of this article is to proceed in that direction... if the USER CHOOSES that is!! I think that if lots of regular people got a chance to try GNU/Linux, they would eventually PREFER it to Windows.
