  1. That's just replacing one drug with another. Like methadone "treatment" for heroin addicts - they just end up doing both and whatever else they can get their hands on. Besides, alcohol is not nearly as addictive as heroin and anti-seizure drugs ravage your stomach and liver even MORE than alcohol, thus the drugs can turn out to be even deadlier than excessive drinking.

  2. @SallyD I think it's a give and take balancing act that is different for different people. And if you can find a drug to treat an addiction that isn't highly addictive in and of itself (such as methadone) than that's awesome. And meds can and often do have horrible side effects and are often used recklessly, but I still have faith in their place in the world of treatment.
