socialnewswatch.com — All of the top social media websites have their advantages and disadvantages. For political prowess, Reddit has the one major advantage and several minor advantages that make it more of a focal point for politicians than the mass exposure that Digg and S

  1. Digg has a strong following in the political field, but I agree that Reddit has a lot more!

  2. I find Mixx has the most open-minded and positive community. Now someone will probably trash this comment.

  3. @StanHayes - I think you are correct about Mixx being open minded and need not be worried about comments getting trashed. Even if they did trash your comment, it is only a comment and need not be taken personally. You can always comment right back and trash your comment's comments freely.

Back on topic - As of yet however, Mixx has not become as political as Digg or Reddit. I think that is a good thing.

  4. @BartTheBear

AGREED! I love the "mix" on Mixx - a little of this, a little of that - not dominated by the politician-du-jour, plus not too tech heavy.

  5. Reddit is more political if you're interested in every move made by Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich.

  6. I like Reddit's comment system the best of the three. On Digg you can leave a stupid drive-by comment that gets hundreds of votes. On Reddit they vote those down. I'm too new on Mixx to have an opinion other than I like voting on comments and miss it when I come here.

  7. Definitely something going on with those tags...

  8. one should be able to adequately tag any article using a maximum of 4 tags for any article (IMHO)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_color_theorem

this wiki article refers to maps as in "real maps", but really, you can lift this theorem from cartography, use it algebraically-abstractly, and apply it to social tagging.

in map coloring, we describe a 2 dimensional space (which can be divided infinite ways) using a maximum of 4 colors.

consider your typical driving-mileage chart. it has a list of descriptors on the X and Y axis
(in this case, cities. but algebraically, we can just call them "m")
what if we added a Z axis and added something like altitude, temperature, population, etc.

we could expand this mileage chart into 3-D, then 4-D, and so on to infinity. lets call the infinite characteristics we could describe "n".

So, now we have "m" verbs that can be can describe "n' ways, which is kind of how language works, and sort of how tagging works.

  9. @polymath22 - What is a "poloitical"? Definitely something going on with those tags...

  10. I had to comment - I would have voted twice if I could just for all the tags you had to enter =))))))

  11. @BartTheBear if you go to mixx forum you'll meet with the ones to "blame" for tagging, today on the forum they asked not to tag so much because they are braking the system, all in good spirit.

I stopped using reddit just because of this reason, and I stopped using digg too, just don't like it.
I am glad I found mixx, I guess I need to thank you for introducing it to me.

  12. Most of those tags aren't really relevant...

they barely describe the article at all

  13. @BAMACRAZY77 - I didn't add all of those tags...

Now, Now the only way to begin to deal with a problem is to first admit you have one. Denial is not a river in Egypt.

  19. @BartTheBear I've been there.
It is happennig with group additions and in group posting, I stopped using most of them

  20. @tplahav

I don't know. I suspected that, but I could be wrong. At the end of the day it doesn't matter. I'm going easy on the tags now at any rate.

  21. I think it could be programatic. Send a post to one of your groups and that group gets added to the post automatically. What about all of the tags that may exist in that group?

    Something is fishy here...
