  2. @tomboys - funny, I haven't heard anything from Greg. I am really interested in knowing if anyone else "shares" to the groups they belong to. If so, this could be the group culprit...

  3. Thanks Bart for bringing this to our attention. I don't use lots of tags. Is this a technique that will bring popularity to a submission?

  4. Bart,

Its Greg, trust us. If its not him there's only two other people I could remotely think it is, and they don't tag like Greg does.

As for group shares, I'm a member of about 12 groups, my digest is so long I don't even bother looking at it. Because of that, if I don't vote for something in a group, I don't submit it to a group unless I think it needs a lot of eyes.

I'm glad Mixx removed the public like to articles when you're view the group submission, b/c groups became nothing more than "Vote for my Stuff" platforms.

  5. In response to your post, I don't think Mixx is a work in progress as it is a reflection of the founders intentions. They wanted mixx to be an open and honest. They basically hoped everyone else would be as such, and didn't count on some scenarios occurring such as someone take your post and adding it to several other groups for whatever reason.

As for the tags, I'm sure they figured everyone would impose a limit on themselves and not tag bomb. Again, you can build a simple elegant and honest system, and someone will come an screw it up for everyone (intentionally or unintentionally).

  6. Just wanted to add a note that we, and Kori in particular, wasn't trying to point fingers. We received a spam report about a couple of articles, and instead of just assuming that it was the person that submitted the article originally, we reached out to the submitter to start a conversation. We find this is a more reasonable approach than just assuming or blocking or banning and then trying to figure it out later. I'm sorry if this was miscontrued in anyway as pointing fingers.

One other note--adding more tags does nothing to to add directly to its popularity. Nor does adding it to groups.

Hit us up if you have more quesitons....

  7. @Kerry - The reasonable approach is a good idea. And it is different than what Mixx's bigger cousin would do.
That being the case, am going to take the path laid out by Bdog2g2 and not submit to the groups unless I am the administrator of that group. If someone else wants to throw it into a group, they can if they want. I "share" the posts to my friends list that I want a lot of eyes to see. That seems to get it popular enough for the front page.

  8. A couple of points I want to make. Yes, I am a tagaholic. I will admit that. Admittedly, I added quite a lot of tags to stories over the last few days. But the two specific posts mentioned in that article... I added some tags to them, but not all. I do recall adding quite a few to Tamar's article as I was using keywords from the subtitles in her article.

While it's obvious to many when I've flown by a topic and let a tag bomb drop on it, I just want to say that I'm not the only one.

Still, I've settled down with the tagging somewhat. Yeah, I got a little crazy with it. Yeah, I know, I'm a dick...

Regarding adding to groups: I do add stories to groups; but only to groups I believe that bear some relation to the topic at hand. Sometimes I hit the mark; others I don't: clearly there are a couple of people running groups who have very clear visions for what they want or don't want in their groups.

For the most part, though (and I know I am not the only one here) some submitters have been adding some stories to groups that just don't even conceivably fit into the group.

For example, one of those stories mentioned above was added to an arts group. I'm not sure how that has any relevance to that group. I don't recall adding it to that group - if it was me it was done in error (remember, I admittedly have made this mistake in the past)...

  9. @cGt2099

From a technical point of view, I think tags could be a problem, if it gets out of hand. Like Chris stated.

I think a bigger problem is allowing anyone to post submissions to groups without knowing who did it. Even tags should be traced back to individual, like was mentioned in the Bowl.

For me, as I stated before, I try to stay away from groups. One, I don't have time to admin the ones I created. Two, Its too much work to think about if a story that's on a conceptual line fits in a particular group or not. Three, as stated, I don't really vote on the stories that are shared via groups in my Digest, so its not fair for me to want someone to vote on something I post in a group when I don't do it.
