  1. It really is horrible. Unless I get financial aide to pay the cost, I end up not buying the text book sometimes. I've have books cost as much as $200 each.

  2. @calinazaret That really stinks, you're not alone. The figure is stated that around 60% of college students do the same, they skip buying a college textbook because they cannot afford it. I remember how disgusted I was with college textbooks so I feel your pain. Good luck weaving through the system.

  3. Yep it's basically extortion. The publishers know you need the book to get the degree.

It is extortion and this is a huge problem; especially since the book prices are designed for maximum profit. It is monopolistic--because the students are required to have that particular book, and have nowhere else to choose an alternative.

  5. Yuck, I just realized there are several typos and grammatical errors in my previous comment. Clearly I've gotten the best out of college.

  6. The cost of college textbooks drives me crazy. My daughter started college last fall and her Spanish class required new textbooks. The textbook cost over $200.00, She told me she may have it bronzed (LOL) after she finishes using it. Even though she is covered by the Hope Scholarship (Georgia lottery funded) it only covers $150.00 a semester for books. That's about 1.5 text books. The publishing companies ought to be ashamed for gouging students they way they do.

  10. I thought the prices increased 186% just in the 4 years I was in college.

  11. What a scam university bookstores are. I bought my books on Amazon and it saved me almost 60% from what the new version editions would have cost with about 4 words changed in the entire books.
