  1. Sort of related: About a year ago our apartments had automatic thermostats installed for the A/C. I used to turn the A/C on only when I really needed it, now it switches itself on all the frikkin time, partly because the insulation here is so bad that you never really maintain a constant temperature. In the end I had to go back to switching the thermostat off completely just to stop it turning on all day. Ironically, when these were installed they promised energy savings of up to 50%. The next month my electricity bill was, of course, higher.
