msnbc.msn.com — In America, you get what you pay for. Those who pay more get better service. That's the way it is in restaurants, and in health care, too. But imagine a restaurant with one kitchen, one chef, but two doors and two price lists. That's the model of health

  3. Do you know what would happen if these physicians spent time personally discussing imaging results with every patient? They would end up looking at a lot fewer scans in a day. That means longer waiting times for patients. That means decreased reimbursement on the part of the clinic.

Do you know what would happen if these physicians spent time personally discussing imaging results with every patient? They would end up looking at a lot fewer scans in a day. That means longer waiting times for patients. That means decreased reimbursement on the part of the clinic.

Now before you say that $150 that the clinic received is to much and it's not fair keep in mind that the money doesn't just go into the doctors pocket. Rent for building space, salaries and benefits for employees, insurance, billing company fees, x-ray equipment, utilitiy bills, etc. etc. all has to be paid with that before the doctor gets anything.

Did one of the women get sub-standard care? No. Both received mammograms read by the same radiologist who will be held accountable for their findings regardless if the patient had insurance or not.

What is the difference? One woman consumed more of the radiologists time, walked out with her x-rays, and had a comfy robe. For this she had to pay extra for. If that seems terribly unfair to some people then I'm afraid they will be deeply disappointed with healthcare reform because this sort of practice will continue. It even happens in more advanced civilizations like France folks. Want more? Pay more.

    1. @MintJulip Mint, you are wasting your time trying to explain things like overhead to the idiot masses that say things like "this is why the system needs reform".....

Places like Mixx, MSNBC and CNN are interesting because they give insight into how we ended up with the current administration and all of its corruption.
