I grew up on a ranch in the middle of nowhere and now work in IT for a faceless corporation.

Sorry I've been away recently. I no longer work for the "faceless corporation" mentioned in my profile, so I don't have all day to waste away on the intertubes... As McArthur stated upon leaving the Philippines in 1942, "I be dippin my hooptey back up in dis beotch!".

Cheeseburgers When Subsidized

Being from a farm/ranch and doing it myself now, I'm often concerned with the criticisms brought forward about the Farm Bills. Mostly the idea of super rich farmers/ranchers bothers me. We don't have a problem cutting out the stupid payments to those who don't actually do real farming, or the huge payments to agribusiness corps like ADM.
As far the regular farmers go, the high price of grains and such is more of a harm than a help. When your product is so expensive it costs far more to plant the crop and maintain, which makes crop failure or even low yields a killer. I would say the majority of farmers would be much happier with moderate prices than super high prices. Better to make a decent profit over the next decade than make a ton this year and lose it all in the next.
If the average family farm out there was getting rich from the increased prices or Farm Bill, we certainly wouldn't see so many going out of business. Especially in the last 5 years. -

Borat actor to play Sherlock Holmes

I'm a big fan of the Holmes works, but I can hardly imagine either of these projects. The Guy Ritchie version with an 'all action' Holmes seems out of character, and Will Farrell as Watson will be interesting to say the lease. I think Cohen's film sounds more appealing though...
