The group of kids I was working with were creating a web site for a national competition. The subject matter focused on the influence of popular culture on teens. One aspect they wanted to examine was the impact of modern fashion styles and marketing on teenagers.

As part of the web project, they decided to film a video that focused on this influence of fashion on teens. We included it in the web site, but also entered it separately in the TRIO Quest media contest. It was a good idea that we did so, because we came first place and were awarded the gold medal for the video.

Basically the premise of the video is how different teens perceive fashion; the need to purchase items that are not necessarily "needs"; and how popular fashion perpetuates itself and spreads among teenage culture.

  5. Very cool, I have a five year old son, and that the one thing I most want to instill in him, is the need to be media savy, and critical. Its important for kids to see past the BS of advertisment.
